Chancellor Reaction | Video

Yesterday, the amendment to the higher education funding bill that would include money to allow for the firing of university system chancellor, Ham Shirvani, by buying out his contract failed by one vote.

Today it was brought back up again for discussion. Students at Minot State University have been following Ham Shirvani`s proposal process since September. The members of the Student Government Association drafted resolutions which were presented to the Senate and were voted in favor of.

After Senator Karen Kresbach from Minot brought the issue back up for discussion today, the President of SGA, Lindsay Nelson, said she can`t say what the future will hold for the colleges and universities of North Dakota, but she is not giving up on making a difference for her fellow students.

"Now that more action has been taken, we`re definitely going to stay up on it. We`re not going to ease back. I`m watching Facebook and social media. I`ve seen people commenting to each other saying, `Hey, you need to be emailing your legislatures, we need to take our next steps on this.`"

The final decision is up to the Board of Higher Education. Nelson said she is very pleased to see how the student body joined together during this time.
