Williston Police Investigating Report of Check Fraud

| 2/26/2013

A Spokane, Washington, man was arrested in Williston yesterday after a bank contacted police for reports of check fraud. Williston police were called to Fist National Bank at around 5:00. Wendell Winfrey, 45, was at the drive up window. When police arrived, he took off in his car.

After a vehicle and foot chase, Winfrey was placed under arrest for reckless driving, endangerment, and giving police false information.

The check fraud is still under investigation. Williston police say check fraud is becoming an increasing problem.

"We would like to encourage or citizens to keep an eye on their mail. We have information that checks are being stolen out of the mail, and forged and altered," said Detective David Peterson.
