Possible Zoning Changes | Video

Rene Thibault | 2/25/2013

With Minot going through so much rapid growth right now, the city is trying to update its current zoning codes.Information collected at city planning meetings has shown that residents want more importance put on the appearance of homes in their neighborhoods.

Some say the proposed changes to Minot`s zoning codes could restrict the freedom of homeowners and builders. The planning commission says the zoning changes aren`t meant to restrict homeowners, but are a way to make sure Minot stays a vibrant city well into the future.

“It`s important, I think as a city and with ordinances, in that case, to make sure that again we put together facilities and homes that look and fit and have a long lasting product on them. So that we`re not dealing with this in 30, 40 years where we have the slums of Minot, in a sense,” said Travis Zablotney, a member of the Minot Planning Commission.

The Minot Planning Commission and Minot Board of Realtors will put together community subcommittees to take a closer look at the proposed ordinances and develop a list of possible changes.
