Pope Benedict XVI Resigns | Video

Amy Fox | 2/11/2013

After serving as head of the Catholic Church since April of 2005, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation at the Vatican this morning. It`s been nearly 600 years since a Pope has resigned.

With his announcement unexpected, as Father George Pruys of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Minot explains, it`s a sad day for the Catholic Church.

“When a Pope retires or resigns, we won`t hear much from him anymore,” said Pruys. “And, Benedict XVI has great talents, great people skills, is very, very kind, holy and humble, and we`re going to miss that."

While it is not known who will take the Pope Benedict’s place at the end of the month, Father Pruys says he is optimistic about the future of the Catholic Church.
