| 1/29/2013

A Sheyenne, ND man will serve over a year in prison for damaging a police vehicle. Weldon Littleghost, 21, was sentenced today to one year and nine months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.

In August of 2011, Littleghost and another man, Lucas Little of Tokio, ND, were arrested on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation and placed in the back seat of a Bureau of Indian Affairs police vehicle. While the officer was attending to a third person, Little managed to get into the front seat of the vehicle and drive away.

They were to get out of their handcuffs, damage electronic systems in the vehicle and shoot out the back window before missing a curve in the road and driving into a lake.

Both Little and Littleghost will have to pay restitution, joint and several in the amount of $42,358.19, and to pay a $225 special assessment to the Crime Victim`s Fund.

Little was sentenced in December to one year and 10 months in prison to be followed by two years of supervised release.
