Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It: Slushy Magic | Video

Making slushies for the kids can be a big mess. You need a blender, ice and syrup. But, there may be an easier way to do it yourself. In this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Slushy Magic.

They advertise Slushy Magic as a do it yourself slushy maker. All you have to do is add the magic freezer cubes, pour your favorite drink, and shake, shake, shake. But, does this product actually work? Well, "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."

"We just throw in the syrup and the water. And, then, the next day, it’s just slushy," said Logan Shipley, slushy expert.

When Shipley is not at school, he`s making slushies as his part-time job. But, he`s always trying to come up with new ways to make them at home. So, we decided to put Slushy Magic to the test. We pulled it out of the box, and it was time to put the magic cubes in the freezer.

Shipley said, "It`s kind of weird, it`s plastic.”

Once the cubes were frozen, it was time to try out the Slushy Magic. So, we put the magic freezer cubes in the shaker, along with 10 ounces of orange juice, tightened the lid and it was ready to shake.

"It looks foamy,” said Shipley. “I can`t tell if it`s slushified or not."

You`ll notice a lot of foam on top, but it still looks a lot like orange juice, not a slush.

Shipley said, "I think I`m displeased. It looks like orange juice."

Next, on the list: cola. We once again repeated the same steps. But, this time, the pop started leaking out of the container.

"I think it`s blowing up," said Shipley.

While the orange juice and cola didn’t work, we wanted to try out chocolate milk. We put the magic freezer cubes inside the shaker and added milk. And, when we were done shaking....

Shipley said, "It`s just chocolate milk."

So, was there any magic in the shaker or the freezer cubes?

"I actually thought it kind of might work. But, I was disappointed," said Shipley.

While Slushy Magic was easy to use, it didn`t turn the drinks into slushies. Instead, it only made them foamy. Some of the liquid even came out from the little hole on top of the lid. Not exactly mess-free like they advertise on TV.

So, this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It" earns a thumbs down.
