Tax Service Companies | Video

Tax season is starting up and that means some of us will rely on friends and family for help. Others may go to a tax service company. But, are these tax preparers really qualified to do the job?

At Jackson Hewitt in Minot, tax preparers are required to complete tax school. This includes 15 continuing education credits, online training and 70 hours of basic income tax courses. Topics include interest, retirement and itemized deductions. While a college degree is not a requirement, tax preparers feel they are up for the challenge because of all of the homework they`ve done.

"It`s very in depth. And, I just go through it and read it because I mean, you`re going through it and you`re testing. And, now I`m done testing, you know, now I can go back and be like, now I understand that question,” said Jackson Hewitt Tax Preparer Samantha Silva.

Once a tax form is complete, a supervisor at Jackson Hewitt will look over it before submitting it to the IRS. If there are any errors or problems with a tax form, a red flag review will be done.
