Compliance With Pesticide Rules at All-Time High

| 1/3/2013

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is saying that compliance with pesticide rules in the state is at an all-time high. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says that out of 1,042 inspections in 2012, over 840, 81 percent, were in compliance.

Goehring says the high compliance rate is a result of the department`s outreach and compliance assistance program.

"Our pesticide team participated in 120 public meetings and compliance assistance opportunities last year, reaching more than 4,400 members of the public to discuss pesticide regulation," he said. "These meetings included private certification sessions set up with local Extension Service personnel, grower meetings, small group and one-on-one compliance assistance visits, garden clubs, and other settings."

He also says that while drift complaints were down, pesticide drift is still an issue.
