Texas Hold ‘Em Championship Tournament | Video

The North Dakota State Texas Hold `Em Championship Tournament is going on right now at the Vegas Motel in Minot. The tournament is the largest charity tournament outside of Las Vegas and has been a great boost for Minot`s economy. The tournament has brought in more than two million dollars.

This is the ninth year for the event with many coming from out of state and out of the country to participate. The final winner is announced on New Year`s Eve and will win $45,000. Wendy Rupert, co-founder of the tournament, said it`s like a family reunion every year, seeing everyone come back to play.

“We created this to be a marquee for the community during a slow time of the year and we`ve achieved all those goals so the tournament has grown in size, fame, notoriety. So it`s a really exciting event.”

Sam Dickson, the 2008 tournament winner, said it’s a fun and exciting time and a chance to win some money.
