Moose Sighting | Video

Julie Leonardi | 12/3/2012

A moose and two calves have been spotted in the Minot area and Police are urging people to be careful. Moose sightings are not unusual in Minot, but residents need to be aware of their presence.

Police say it`s best to leave the moose alone and they will eventually leave our area. These are 800 pound animals, and mothers can be defensive. If you`re in your car, don`t move and notify the police. Don`t go looking for the animals, they typically aren`t a threat when just passing through.

“Remember they are wild animals, they are not somebody`s house pet. They`re not used to having people around. The more people are around the more agitated and scared they get when that`s involved with a wild animal the risk of injury`s go up,” said animal conrtol officer Bobby Roberts.

If you see the animals and feel threatened, call the Minot Police Department at 701-852-0111.
