Record Breaking Housing Complex | Video

Harvest Hills was the biggest housing development in Williston, until now. KKR Realty has announced plans to build a housing development behind Harvest Hills that will cover 164 acres. This will be one of the biggest projects ever permitted in Williston.

Ground work for the complex is already underway, but there won`t be any major construction for a few months.

"They`ll get into full swing as soon the weather breaks in the springtime," said City Commissioner Howard Klug.

The sub-division will have more than 800 apartments and more than 700 houses.

"It`s a huge investment by this company, and we`re pleased to see that because we know we need permanent type housing, and they`re going to take us down that road a long ways," said Mayor Ward Koeser.

It will be a $150 million project, and be able to house about 4,000 people. Koeser says housing complexes like this one will give people options.

"I really think we`re starting to turn that corner. We see it in the motel industry. You actually can find a motel room some nights when you come to town, and I think you`re going to see that in the apartment complexes in maybe the next six months."

When there are more housing options available, residents should notice one major change.

"If there starts to be maybe 50 apartments open in town, some of those people who own those apartment will say, `Maybe if we lower our price by 50-100 bucks a month that will help us fill,`" Koeser added.

If the city continues to get help from the state, and is able to support what is going on, the area by Harvest Hills will only get bigger.

"Down the road, I for see that the direction the city is going to grow. Actually northwest into that area," Klug added.

The KKR housing complex will also have a 10 acre park.
