City Discusses Curbside Recycling Option | Video

Joel Porter | 11/14/2012

Curbside recycling is once again on the table in Bismarck. Residents are allowed to dump recyclables at 17 drop sites around town. Members of the Missouri Valley Resources Council presented commissioners with 625 signatures of people in favor of curbside recycling.

Public works director Jeff Heintz says recycling is an option. However, residents would have to pay an additional fee.

"We`ve obviously been keeping our costs down, but it`s time to catch up to our existing operating costs and then start to look at what other programs we want to offer," he said.

"Some people who didn`t know what curbside recycling is, we less enthusiastic simply because they didn`t know and when we explained it, they were very open to the idea," said Karen Erickstad with the Missouri Valley Resources Council.

It`s still not known how much curbside recycling would cost. Commissioners plan to hear public input on the issue later this month.
