Recreation Facilities Making Progress | Video

Julie Leonardi | 11/13/2012

Flood recovery for Minot is moving along, slowly but surely. The community development committee met this afternoon to review applications requesting local sales tax proceeds to help restore parks in Minot.

Sixty park facilities were under water last year and they`re halfway through the process of rebuilding. The funds will help restore parks, golf courses, and the Roosevelt Park Zoo. The council approved $1.7 million dollars for the project. That means the recreation group can use the money to restore the buildings, and can apply again in June for more money towards the project.

Ron Merritt, executive director of Minot Park District, said “This will be a great help to us, we`ll be able to keep moving on with what we`re working on now, keeping our process moving so we can get all of our facilities put back together.”

Merritt said most recreation centers will be ready to use by June.
