Special Olympics North Dakota athletes and coaches recently returned from the Special Olympics USA National Games that were held, July 18 - 23, in Lincoln, Neb. Approximately 3,000 athletes representing 47 states competed at the games.
North Dakota athletes returned home with a bronze medal for the women`s unified volleyball team, 4th place for the men`s basketball team and a bronze medal for the men`s unified soccer team. Individual results also added 10 gold medals, 13 silver medals, 8 bronze medals as well as numerous ribbons.
Results from Bismarck-Mandan athletes include:
· Barb Braun, Mandan, (Unified Bocce Partner) - Unified Women`s Bocce Doubles - 4th Place; Unified Bocce Team - Silver Medal
· Jim Braun, Mandan - Unified Men`s Bocce Doubles - Gold Medal; Unified Men`s Bocce Team - Silver Medal
· Shale Erickson, Mandan - Silver Medals in the Bench Press, Deadlift, and Combination Lift
· Kayla Foth, Mandan - Bowling Singles - Bronze Medal; Bowling Doubles - Silver Medal; Bowling Team - Bronze Medal.
· Chris Goetz, Mandan - member of the Men`s Basketball Team that received a 4th place ribbon
· Scott Hamilton, Mandan - Unified Bocce Doubles - Gold Medal; Unified Bocce Team - Silver Medal
· David Johs, Bismarck - 50M Backstroke - 4th Place; 50M Freestyle - 6th Place
· Deyna Just, Mandan - Long Jump - 4th Place; 100 M - Gold Medal; 200M - 4th Place
· Lynsey Koch, Bismarck and Jan Moser, Mandan-members of the Women`s Unified Volleyball Team that received a Bronze Medal
· Brian Ricker, Mandan - 200M - Bronze Medal; 100M Run - Gold Medal; Long Jump - 4th Place
