Sarah Palin`s Minot Ties | Video
Jennifer Schwan
12/8/2009
On Page 36 of Sarah Palin`s book "Going Rogue," Palin speaks about her 1982 state championship basketball team, the moment of the winning shot, and the celebration that took place afterward with her teammates.

"She was crying, she just couldn`t believe we won," says Katy Port Allers.

The Katie that Palin mentions in the book is now a resident of Minot. Allers moved to Minot after she graduated from Wasilla High School in 1984.

During their high school careers, Allers and Palin were teammates on the basketball court and the track.

"Her dad was actually our coach," says Allers.

Allers is two years younger than Palin and has plenty memories to share.

"She was such a leader. Always trying to conquer something and she was dynamite on the basketball court," says Allers.

Her performance on the basketball court is how her teammates came up with the nickname, Barracuda.

"In 2007, we came back together to celebrate our 25th anniversary of winning the state championship" says Allers.

Even though it`s been a while since the two have been teammates, Katie says that Sarah is still the same small town girl she remembers from 1982.

"She hasn`t changed. She still takes her time to talk to everyone," says Allers.

On Sunday night, Allers and her mom loaded up the car and headed 10 hours south to Sioux Falls, SD, to attend Palin`s book signing

"When we got there the line was around the building," says Allers.

Allers and her mom were given VIP Passes after they convinced security that Allers name and picture were in the book.

"She looked up and was like, ‘Katie!’ and spoke to us for about ten minutes," says Allers.

Even though Palin lost her bid to become Vice President and controversy has stirred around her name, Allers believes Palin still has much more to accomplish.

"Absolutely," says Allers.
