A new B-52 bomber Squadron has been activated at the Minot Air Force Base.
The 69th Bomb Squadron is the Air Force`s fourth B-52 squadron, and it`s the second one at Minot.
It will be staffed slowly, but about 170 personnel have already arrived.
Ten B-52s will be moved from Barksdale Air Force Base to Minot, bring the number of combat ready bombers to 26.
The Air Force says the new squadron ensures the future of the Minot Base and will give the community an economic boost.
"The importance of the unit to Minot specifically to the community is people," says Maj. General Floyd Carpenter. "We are going to bring one thousand people. Military people and their dependants. So we will be adding people in your schools, community, becoming softball coaches, in your churches, all those kinds of places."
In October, the new squadron will deploy to an exercise in Alaska.
